Cloudflare Agents SDK browser tool keeps tabs between turns
A new browserTool gives an agent a browser that survives across conversation turns, cookies, tabs and login session intact, as long as it is reached within a 10-minute idle window.
Cloudflare’s Agents SDK now ships a browserTool that keeps a browser instance alive across conversation turns, according to a changelog post published on 13 October. Previously, an agent’s browser session ended with the turn. Now it can open a page, close the conversation, and come back later to find the same tabs, cookies and login session still there.
The browser runs on Cloudflare’s Browser Rendering, and the agent drives it through the Chrome DevTools Protocol, taking screenshots an image-capable model can read. Each conversation gets its own active tab by default, while cookies and logins are shared across the whole browser. Sessions stay alive even when the underlying Durable Object hibernates, with a default idle timeout of 10 minutes. If a session expires or crashes, the tool spins up a fresh browser and reports restarted: true. The feature needs Agents SDK version 0.28.0 or later, and works with the Pi Durable, AI SDK and TanStack AI adapters.
Why it matters: an agent that logs into a site, fills in a form, then checks back later used to mean re-authenticating every turn or building your own session store. This does that for you, at the cost of a 10-minute idle window you need to design around if your agent’s checks are infrequent.
