Cloudflare postpones AI Search billing by a month

Usage charges for the RAG service were due to start on 1 November. Cloudflare has pushed that to 1 December and doubled the default sync interval to 24 hours.

Cloudflare has postponed usage billing for AI Search, its retrieval-augmented-generation service, from 1 November to 1 December, the company said on 2 November. Pricing and the included free allowance are unchanged: Cloudflare says accounts simply won’t be charged for AI Search usage before the new date.

The same post changes the default sync interval for new AI Search instances from six hours to 24. You can still set any interval from 15 minutes up to 24 hours yourself, either in an instance’s settings or through the API, and existing instances keep whatever interval they already had.

Why it matters: The Wire covered this billing switch going live on 1 November. It didn’t. If you checked your ingestion and query volumes against the free allowance last week expecting a bill, you have an extra month before usage past that allowance costs anything. The longer default sync interval matters too: a new RAG pipeline you create from now on will only refresh its index once a day unless you deliberately tighten that setting, which is worth knowing if the data behind it changes more often than that.
