Black Forest Labs opens FLUX 3 Image Klein weights for 8GB GPUs

A 5.6-billion-parameter open-weight image model shares native 4K generation and pixel-perfect editing with the full FLUX 3 line, and runs on consumer GPUs.

Black Forest Labs released FLUX 3 Image Klein on 15 October, an open-weight image model with 5.6 billion parameters. It shares core capabilities with the full FLUX 3 Image model: native 4K generation, pixel-perfect editing, bounding boxes that place or confine edits to a defined area, and multi-reference generation from up to 10 reference images.

The model needs 11.2GB of memory in BF16 or 5.6GB in FP8, and runs on GeForce RTX GPUs with as little as 8GB of VRAM, generating an image in about 4 seconds on an RTX 5090 and under 9 seconds on an RTX 4070. Alongside a base model for fine-tuning and a step-distilled version for low-latency generation, Black Forest Labs built FP8, INT8 and NVFP4 versions with NVIDIA. API access runs at $0.009 per 1,000 images. The licence gives free commercial use to individuals and companies with annual revenue under $5 million; larger organisations need a self-hosted licence or the API.

Why it matters: 4K generation, precise editing and multi-reference support running on an 8GB consumer GPU, under a genuinely free commercial licence for small teams, means most side projects and small products can self-host image generation instead of paying per call.

The caveat: that free commercial licence only covers organisations under $5 million in annual revenue. Past that, self-hosting needs a paid licence.
