GitHub Copilot can now run coding tasks in JetBrains Air
Copilot joins JetBrains Air's agent picker, running tasks locally through your IDE or in an isolated cloud container via Air Teams, billed against your existing Copilot subscription.
GitHub shipped Copilot support for JetBrains Air on 3 November, letting you pick Copilot from Air’s agent menu to delegate coding tasks, guide them as they run, and review the results. The integration goes through the Agent Client Protocol, the same plumbing Air already uses to connect other coding agents.
There are two ways to run it. A local task uses the Air plugin in your JetBrains IDE, with your own Copilot account connected directly. A cloud task, available to organisations on Air Teams, runs Copilot in a Docker container on a fresh virtual machine instead, so builds, tests and package installs happen away from your own machine. Either way, tasks draw on your existing Copilot subscription rather than a separate allowance of JetBrains’ own AI credits.
Why it matters: if you already pay for Copilot, this is a way to use that subscription inside an IDE built around running several coding agents side by side, rather than buying a second allowance just to work in Air.
The caveat: Air can’t yet split which Copilot plan, personal or your organisation’s, a given task draws on, and its usage analytics don’t track Copilot activity separately from other agents.
