Next.js 15 reaches end of life today
Two years after its release, Next.js 15 stops receiving even critical bug fixes and security updates. Vercel recommends moving to 16, which is in Active LTS.
Next.js 15 is unsupported as of 21 October, exactly two years after it was released on the same date in 2024. Under Vercel’s support policy, each major version gets Maintenance LTS, critical bug fixes and essential security updates only, for two years from its initial release, and nothing after that.
Next.js 16, released on 21 October 2025, is in Active LTS, which means new features, regular bug fixes and security patches until Next.js 17 ships. Vercel’s policy leaves itself room to patch an unsupported version in rare cases depending on severity, but that is a discretionary exception, not something to plan around.
Why it matters: if you are still on Next.js 15 in production, you are now on your own for anything that is not severe enough for Vercel to break its own policy over. That includes security issues discovered from today onward. Moving to 16 is the only supported path, and it is worth checking now rather than after the next CVE lands in a version nobody is patching.
