GPT-6 brings interactive UI, not just text, to ChatGPT answers

OpenAI is rolling GPT-6 out to everyone, paired with Intelligent UI: buttons, forms and charts generated inline instead of plain prose.

OpenAI started rolling GPT-6 out to ChatGPT on 7 October, reaching Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users first; Free and Go tiers follow a day later. Paid tiers run on a variant called GPT-6 Sol, Free and Go run GPT-6 Luna. Work and Codex keep their existing models for now. OpenAI says the rollout covers the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT weekly.

The model ships alongside Intelligent UI, which lets an answer build its own format instead of always returning plain text: tappable buttons, forms, charts, side-by-side comparisons, diagrams and maps, generated as part of the response. OpenAI’s examples include a cooking timeline next to a recipe, stops plotted on a map for a road trip, and small on-demand tools such as a savings calculator or a bill splitter. On speed, OpenAI says GPT-6 Extra High answers as fast as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring above GPT-5.6 Extra High overall, and GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.

Why it matters: this is a shift in what a chat response can be, not just a smarter model. If you are building on top of ChatGPT’s consumer product, assume answers your users see may now arrive as interactive widgets rather than text you can scrape or quote cleanly. If you build your own product against OpenAI’s API, Intelligent UI itself is consumer-only for now — Work and Codex are unaffected — but it signals where the vendor is pointing the interface.
