VS Code 1.141 adds a sandbox and a cleanup tool for coding agents
The October release brings cross-platform sandboxing for the Copilot agent host and a command to reclaim disk space from stale agent worktrees.
VS Code 1.141, released on 7 October, adds cross-platform sandboxing for the Copilot agent host. The chat.agent.sandbox.enabled setting, which can also be toggled per session from the Permissions menu, limits what agent operations can touch on disk and over the network — and now works on Windows, macOS and Linux rather than a single platform.
The same release ships a “Chat: Open Worktree Cleanup” command that reclaims disk space from inactive agent session worktrees, filterable by how long they’ve sat idle. Active, pinned and input-needed sessions are protected from deletion. A new grid layout lets you compare several agent sessions side by side, and a github-enterprise.uris setting adds support for connecting to more than one GitHub Enterprise instance at once.
Why it matters: running coding agents locally has started to mean managing their blast radius and their disk footprint, not just their output. Sandboxing and worktree cleanup are both answers to problems that only turn up once you’re running agents day to day rather than trying them out once.
