GitHub Copilot cloud sessions now follow you across devices
A connected Copilot cloud experience, live on github.com, GitHub Mobile, VS Code, the CLI and chat apps, lets a task you start on your phone finish in your editor as the same session.
GitHub shipped a connected Copilot cloud experience on 28 October, letting a cloud coding session follow you across github.com, GitHub Mobile, VS Code, the Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and a conversation in Slack or Microsoft Teams. Start a change on your phone with voice or a screenshot, continue it on the web, and finish it in your editor: GitHub says it is the same session throughout, not separate copies that need reconciling.
Cloud sandboxes no longer cap total running session time at one hour. When a sandbox shuts down, it saves a snapshot so you can resume later from any surface, and sessions stay scoped to a single organisation or to your personal repositories by default. The feature is generally available, but only on paid Copilot plans: Free users keep Copilot Chat on github.com and GitHub Mobile until they upgrade.
Why it matters: a lot of agent work does not fit neatly into one sitting at a desk. Kicking off a task from a phone, checking on it from a laptop that is not your usual dev machine, and landing the result in VS Code removes a real friction point for anyone running Copilot’s cloud agents day to day.
The caveat: billing for cloud sandbox usage starts in November 2026, so sessions that were effectively free during preview are about to cost money.
