OpenAI Evals goes read-only today, shuts down on 30 November

Existing evals stop accepting new runs from 31 October 2026, and the whole dashboard and API disappear a month later. OpenAI points migrators to Promptfoo.

OpenAI’s deprecations page sets 31 October 2026 as the day existing Evals turn read-only: no new runs, no edits, just the ability to view past results. The Evals dashboard and API are then scheduled to shut down entirely on 30 November.

The Evals platform, OpenAI’s hosted tool for grading model outputs against test cases, was first marked deprecated back in June. Today is the point where it actually stops taking new work rather than just carrying a warning label. OpenAI’s own migration guide points developers toward Promptfoo as the replacement path.

Why it matters: if you have CI jobs, cron tasks or dashboards that create or update evals through the API, they’ll start failing today rather than next month. Anything still reading existing results has until 30 November before that breaks too. Export whatever eval data you need now, and move grading logic to Promptfoo or an in-house harness before the shutdown date.

The caveat: OpenAI doesn’t say whether writes fail with a clean error or just get silently ignored, so test against the API rather than assuming either.
