Apple opens Siri AI integration to every app developer
A new Developer Preview lets any app expose its content and actions to Siri through App Intents, with App Store submissions opening in spring.
Apple said on 3 November that Siri AI integration is now open to all developers, not just its own apps. The Developer Preview ships in the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, watchOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 betas, and lets any app bring its content and actions into Siri using App Intents.
The new capabilities are personal context understanding, onscreen awareness and natural language handling, plus “skills”, which let a developer teach Siri to chain several of an app’s actions into one request. Siri can also now surface any entity in the Spotlight semantic index rather than only ones matching a predefined schema. Apple has already rolled this out across its own apps, including Mail, Maps, Messages, Notes, Reminders and Safari. Developers can start building now, but App Store submissions for apps using the preview do not open until spring, and the capabilities themselves reach customers “in a few months”. It also requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device and is currently unavailable in the EU.
Why it matters: this is the first real path for third-party apps to put their own actions and data in front of Siri, rather than Apple’s assistant staying closed to outside developers. Anyone building an iOS app with App Intents already defined has a head start once submissions open.
The caveat: none of this reaches real users yet. It is beta-only, excludes the EU, and there is no App Store path until spring, so there is nothing to ship today beyond experimenting against the preview.
