Xcode adds GitHub Copilot as a model in its built-in coding assistant
The Xcode 27.3 beta lets any GitHub Copilot plan power the native Intelligence assistant, alongside ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
GitHub Copilot is now a model option inside Xcode’s own coding assistant, not just the separate GitHub Copilot for Xcode extension. The integration ships in public preview with the Xcode 27.3 beta, released 3 November, and needs a Mac on macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later. Any GitHub Copilot plan works, no separate Copilot subscription tier required.
Setup is a model switch, not a new install: open Xcode > Settings > Intelligence and add Copilot alongside the providers already there, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. The existing Copilot for Xcode extension, with its own chat and completions, stays available as a separate option if you prefer it.
Why it matters: Xcode’s native assistant has been a closed loop between Apple’s picks and whichever API key you typed in. Letting Copilot plug in directly means teams already paying for Copilot elsewhere don’t need a second subscription or a separate extension just to get equivalent help inside Xcode.
The caveat: this is a beta feature in a beta Xcode, so expect rough edges before the 27.3 stable release.
