Anthropic renames Max 20x to Ultra, drops its five-hour cap

Claude Max 20x becomes Ultra and verified accounts lose the five-hour usage limit. Max 5x is now just Max. Prices and weekly caps stay the same.

Anthropic has renamed its two paid Claude plans: Max 5x is now simply Max, and Max 20x is now Ultra. Prices are unchanged, $100 a month for Max and $200 for Ultra.

The bigger change is to limits. Anthropic’s support article says verified Ultra accounts “don’t have a five-hour limit”, only the weekly cap of ten times Pro’s usage still applies. Max keeps both limits: five times Pro’s usage every five hours and every week. Accounts that aren’t yet verified still see a temporary five-hour cap on Ultra until verification completes. Existing Max 20x subscribers move to Ultra automatically, with nothing to do on their end.

Why it matters: if you run Claude Code or anything else heavily on the $200 tier, the five-hour window was the thing that actually throttled a long working session, not the weekly cap. Losing it for verified accounts means you can burn a day’s usage in one sitting instead of pacing it out. If your account isn’t verified, check your billing settings so the old limit doesn’t linger unnecessarily.
