Cloudflare Stream WebRTC goes GA, and billing starts the same day
Sub-second live streaming over WHIP and WHEP leaves beta on Stream, with usage now charged at the same per-minute rate as the rest of the product.
Cloudflare’s ultra-low latency live streaming over WebRTC reached general availability in Stream on 15 October, and usage-based billing for it starts the same day.
The feature was rebuilt to run on Cloudflare Realtime’s infrastructure rather than the original beta implementation, and it now speaks the latest WHIP and WHEP protocol standards, including Trickle ICE and counter-offer support, so more player libraries and networks work without extra handling. Broadcasters can go live straight from a browser over WHIP with no separate software, and WebRTC delivery now shows up in Stream’s analytics and billable usage charts. Pricing follows the same per-minute rate as the rest of Stream rather than a separate WebRTC tier.
Why it matters: this was free to use in beta, so anyone running live WebRTC through Stream should check their usage against the standard per-minute rate before it shows up on next month’s invoice. The protocol work also means existing WHIP and WHEP integrations are more likely to interoperate without the workarounds beta users needed.
