GitHub Copilot can now fix a stuck pull request from the merge box

Agent Merge, previously only in VS Code and the Copilot app, now runs straight from github.com: pick "Watch and fix" and it resolves failing Actions runs or merge conflicts in a cloud dev environment.

GitHub shipped Agent Merge directly into the pull request page on 28 October. The feature, until now only available inside VS Code and the Copilot app, watches a pull request for the two most common reasons it stalls, a failing Actions workflow and a merge conflict, and fixes them itself.

You select “Watch and fix” in the merge box and choose which of the two blockers Copilot should handle. It works in a cloud development environment, the same approach the app and VS Code versions use, and can be turned on by default for every pull request through your Copilot settings. It pairs with auto-merge, so a PR can go from broken CI to merged without you opening an editor.

Why it matters: fixing a failing check or resolving a merge conflict is exactly the kind of low-stakes, well-scoped work agents are good at, and until now it meant switching away from the PR you were already looking at. Doing it from the merge box itself removes a context switch rather than adding a new one.

The caveat: it needs a paid Copilot subscription, and organisation or enterprise policy can block it, so it won’t show up for every account automatically.
